The success rate of IVF is gradually increasing day by day. Though, you should know about IVF, Before going for it. First, you must understand the process and must be ready for it; as it will increase the chances of conceiving.
How does it work?
IVF is a biological technique in which egg from the mother ovaries are taken out and fertilise (react) with the sperm of the father in the laboratory. As the name specifies, "in-vitro" means "outside the body".
Naturally, the same process takes place in the mother's uterus in normal condition. But in infertile situations, it should be done outside the body (laboratory) within favourable conditions.
At the time of fertilisation, proper conditions such as PH, temperature, hormones and minerals condition is maintained. After successful fertilisation, formed embryos transfer to the uterus of the mother.
IVF requires time
In-vitro fertilisation requires a lot of time. You must have the patience for the whole process. For the first 10-12 days, a doctor gives mother, drugs to release more eggs from the ovary and some drugs to the father to increase sperm count. They continuously perform a CT scan and ultrasound to check your internal conditions.
Fertilisation in laboratory process takes 4-5 days to implantation of the embryo in the uterus. Extra embryos are frozen for the later used. After two weeks of implantation calls you to take a blood pregnancy test and ultrasound to check if IVF worked.
Bodily changes and side effects
The side effects of the drugs may be shown in the body after implantation like breast tenderness, weight gain, lightheadedness, dizziness, cramping, nausea and vomiting. You should go to the doctor after a severe side effect.
Various risk of pregnancy
There are certain risks with these techniques you must know. Because of multiple embryos implantation in the uterus increases the chance of multiples, which increases the risk of premature labour and birth defects. To avoid this, you should go with genetic embryo screening and implant only one embryo.
Babies born from IVF having more chances of birth defects than the normal ones. Other risks are also foreseen in some cases.
Pregnancy is not guaranteed
Yes, you saw it right; Pregnancy is not guaranteed. It depends on the mother womb conditions and how the body reacts to the implanted embryo. In some circumstances, lack of hormones causes the death of a baby. However, it will be pre diagnosed by doctors and can be saved by incorporating hormonal injections.
But in some cases, the IVF doesn't work. It means the embryo does not lead to being a foetus(baby). Still, it depends on age, 35 and less than 35 aged women are more likely to be pregnant. As age increases, the chances of conceiving decreases. Some people get pregnant in the first attempt, while some needs more attempts.
